Aeva partners with auto supplier ZF to produce key self-driving sensors
By Stephen Nellis
(Reuters) – Aeva Inc, a Silicon Valley start-up engaged on an vital sensor for self-driving vehicles, and German automotive enterprise supplier ZF Friedrichshafen AG acknowledged on Tuesday they’ve been partnering to put the sensors into manufacturing.
Lidar sensors, which measure distances with a laser gentle, help autonomous autos get a three-dimensional picture of the road ahead. Dozens of corporations have been working to reduce the sensors’ value to permit mass manufacturing.
Aeva’s sensor makes use of frequency modulated regular wave, or FMCW, experience which may also detect the rate of distant objects, differentiating between stationary ones like timber from transferring objects like bikes.
Under the partnership, Aeva might be responsible for core sensing efficiency, effectivity and algorithms. ZF, one among Europe’s largest tier-one automotive suppliers, will produce an “automotive grade” sensor that meets …
