U.S. Senator Blumenthal demands AT&T drop push for ad-subsidized cellphone plans

(Reuters) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal on Friday often called on AT&T Inc <T.N> to stop pursuing plans to provide cellphone plans partially sponsored by selling that he said would undermine shopper privateness.
“Consumers anticipate that their cellphone and broadband suppliers shouldn’t spying on their cellphone calls and web buying or using their private data for enterprise purchase,” Blumenthal, a Democrat, wrote in a letter to AT&T Chief Executive John Stankey.
The request follows a Reuters interview with Stankey this week throughout which he talked about a plan to low price cellphone funds as early as a 12 months from now.
“I think about there’s a part of our purchaser base the place given a different, they’d take some load of selling for a $5 or $10 low cost of their cell bill,” Stankey said …
