EU lawmakers’ committee votes for bigger cuts in wholesale roaming fees

BRUSSELS (Reuters) – Lawmakers on the European Parliament’s enterprise committee voted on Thursday for deeper cuts in wholesale roaming tariffs paid by telecoms operators to their counterparts than these proposed by the EU Commission, saying the switch would enhance opponents.
Wholesale worth caps generally pit telecoms suppliers in southern European worldwide places with these in northern Europe over who must revenue from vacationers making calls residence.
The former are keen to take care of such caps as extreme as potential to permit them to make investments in networks to accommodate peak demand all through the holiday season, whereas the latter, whose residents are more likely to go abroad for holidays, want lower caps to networks in southern places.
