LG Elec cuts Q2 operating profit by 21% after GM Bolt EV recall

SEOUL (Reuters) -South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc acknowledged on Tuesday it has revised down its second quarter operating profit by higher than a fifth to copy a provision for recall costs for General Motor Co’s Bolt electrical vehicles (EVs).
It acknowledged operating profit for the three months to end-June was now 878 billion gained ($763.56 million) from a beforehand launched 1.1 trillion.
LG Electronics has geared up GM with battery modules made with battery cells produced by LG Chem’s wholly-owned battery subsidiary LG Energy Solution (LGES). In July, GM issued a second recall for nearly 69,000 Chevrolet Bolt EVs worldwide after tales of two fires and may substitute defective battery modules as needed.
“We will proceed to completely cooperate with the joint investigation carried out by GM, LG Electronics and LG Energy Solution and assure clear recall course of,” an official at LG Electronics suggested Reuters.
